Hi Guys! Come on in and see what I’m doing today! I’m making a Harry Potter Golden Snitch Birthday Card.

Above is a screen shot of my design in Cricut Design Space of the wings and the hearts. I was recently reading about comparisons between Cricut and Silhouette – I started with my mom’s Expression and then I got a Silhouette. The Silhouette program was WAY beyond my technical abilities – I couldn’t figure it out . . . Then I got a Cricut Explore – it was a game changer for me.
This project is a perfect example of how I can duplicate (or close enough) things I see. I saw a video by Lauren Fairweather on YouTube of a Golden Snitch Valentine – she provided the above free .pdf pattern that you can use to cut out the pieces – they were easily duplicated in Cricut Design Space – it was just wings and hearts . . .
Here are the cutout pieces. I used Anna Griffin gold foil cardstock, Close To My Heart Glitter Paper, and CTMH Colonial White cardstock. The heart is a free shape, the wings are from the Cricut “Girl’s Makeup Party” cartridge. I got the font from dafont.com – it’s called “Harry Potter” – Brilliant . . .
I made two sets of wings, one was slightly smaller than the other, scored 1/2” from the edge, glued them together, and folded them along their scorelines.
I put two glue dots between the wing layers to make them dimensional – they’re from Hobby Lobby.
I glued the wings to the underneath of the gold foil heart – lining the curve of the heart to the curve of the wings – to hold them together.
I folded the gold glitter hearts along their scorelines – the glitter hearts are the same size as the gold foil heart.
Then I glued the glitter hearts on top of the gold foil heart – this makes them stand up. Finally, I glued the CTMH Colonial White heart with the sentiment on it on top of/between the open gold glitter hearts (forgot to take a pic, sorry – final pic showing it attached is below).
Sometimes, standard-sized envelopes don’t work. WRMK Envelope Generator app to the rescue! Enter the card width and height, click generate and it calculates your paper dimensions and the punch guide measurement.

Voile . . . A perfectly sized envelope.
Here’s the finished card. It came out just as I imagined – thank you, Lauren Fairweather!!!!
And. Look!!! It folds to fit in the envelope!!!!! How cool is that???????
