Hello! Come on in and see what I’m doing today!
I am using the We R Memory Keepers Template Studio to make a box out of a sheet of poster board. This product lets you make large size boxes, envelopes and gift bags. You can also purchase other templates to make stars, file folders, candy boxes, pillow boxes, and circles – I’ve seen them on Amazon.
My best advice is: WATCH VIDEOS!!!! And FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY!!
I also STRONGLY suggest you practice with another of the WRMK punch boards first. It’s pretty much the same process, except on a much larger scale. You cut notches and make score lines in a very similar manner. I’m wondering why they didn’t just make a giant punch board?
Each different project comes with instruction cards. The card with the tab is where you determine what size box you want to make. It tells you what size to cut your paper and the A & B alignments. Today, I am making a box that is 9.9 x 9.9 x 4.3.
The instructions tell me to cut the paper to 22” x 22”. I connected the A and B guides together to cut the vertical measurement.
I inserted the pegs, making sure the arrow is lined up with the 22 measurement mark.
I used the Envelope & Box guide and connected it to the C guide.
I lined the C guide arrow up with the 4.5” measurement and the other peg hangs off the edge of the mat.
I lined the Envelope & Box guide arrow up to the 17.5”measurement.
I lined the lower left corner of my paper to the Alignment A measurement, which for my project is 2”.
I cut along the inside curve to the Envelope & Box guide.
Then I used the score tool and scored along the upper diagonal edge. Repeat cutting the notches and the diagonal score lines on all four sides.
Flip the poster board over.
Okay . . . Hang On! There’s a problem – and I do not consider this a small problem! The poster board label won’t come off! I do not want this sticker on my box, for crying out loud. When I tried to peel it off, it kept tearing – what a mess!!
So, I thought, hopefully it will end up in a place where it will NOT be seen???? Stay tuned . . .
Line the paper up with the indicated Alignment A, which for my box is 2”.
Then, repeat cutting the notches – you will end up with 8 notches.
Until I tried it, this part was a little tricky. Move the paper to align with scoreline with the Score Guide. I have a closeup of what it’s supposed to look like above.
Here’s where you need to follow directions carefully: Score along the UPPER diagonal edge. Then repeat on all four sides.
PHEW! Almost done, I swear! Next I made a Notch on two opposite corners so the top will close.
So you align the corner with the NOTCH guide on the envelope & box guide and cut along the top edge. Rotate the poster board 180 degrees and repeat on the corner.
Rotate the paper 45 degrees (1/4 turn). Line the triangle of the A & B guides to 11”.
Line the paper to the Alignment B measurement – for my box it is 0.
Score down the center and stop at the score lines. Rotate 90 degrees and repeat.
Fold along all the score lines including the diagonal lines.
Glue the inside flaps to the panel with the cut notches.
Fold in both of the flaps that do not have notches.
Fold in the remaining flaps and connect the notches.
I decided to remove the sticker, because, of course, it was on the inside of a flap where the recipient would definitely see it. Wow . . . Not happy out that!! So, I took my Cricut tool and scraped the label off as carefully as I could. Unfortunately, I also removed a layer of colored paper, and you can see some of the white core of the poster board. NOT HAPPY AT ALL ABOUT THAT!!!!!
So, that’s my first project using the We R Memory Keepers Template Studio. There were 20 steps in the card instructions, pretty complicated . . .
The box came out really good, I like that you can get designer poster board, that you can make your own box, and that it is really sturdy. I did not like that the label did not come off cleanly, that I had to keep taking the guides apart and reassemble with other parts, and the notches were not in quite the correct location for it to close properly (could be operator malfunction – I think I need more practice).
Stay tuned for envelope and gift bag projects using the We R Memory Keepers Template Studio.
